Amanda Frances doesn’t think that the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast genuinely wants to get to know her.
After being confronted by Dorit Kemsley, 49, about her cult past, and as a number of the women wondered if she was being secretive about her involvement with the organization because she didn’t want her business to be impacted, Amanda, 41, insisted she wasn’t holding back as she reacted to the suggestion that she was “fake.”
“Do you think that this was the moment they decided they genuinely wanted to get to know me? No, I do not think that,” Amanda admitted on the March 12 episode of the RHOBH: After Show. “I told the story as clearly and succinctly as I could, and they didn’t believe me.”
“I wasn’t holding anything back. I was just, like, at this point, again, it’s been 18 years. I’ve had to tell this story a lot of times when I’m telling people about my past or different parts of my life. So I don’t know, I kind of have to have a summarized version of it. And if there were parts they felt were missing, ask more questions,” she reasoned.
According to Amanda, at that point in production, she didn’t realize that the cast felt she was inauthentic.
“I didn’t know yet that what they were kind of getting at was that I was fake and hiding things. That never crossed my mind because I’ve never been called those things,” she explained. “I am such an open book and have no secrets and hide nothing, will talk about anything, any time.”
Looking back, Amanda said that she felt it was “odd” for the cast to dictate when she shared “vulnerable things about [herself].”
“I’ve never done that in a friendship or had that happen in a friendship,” she stated.
Meanwhile, after defending her finding of Amanda’s blog about her past cult ties, Dorit accused Amanda of “hiding” the information from the cast.
“I thought, ‘Oh my god,’ because I felt like this is like a big thing that she’s sort of hiding … It was like this blog, and she said it was the most controlling, the most this, the most that, you ran away, but at the table, she said something like she had gotten a storage room,” she shared. “It just felt, nothing makes sense. In no conversation that I was privy to did I really feel like there was a whole hell of a lot of detail or explanation about the cult.”
Elsewhere, after Kyle Richards, 57, noted that Amanda “does not talk with any emotion,” Erika Jayne, 54, pointed out that she can be that way as well.
“So I cannot criticize her for how she talks about her life,” she said.
Jennifer Tilly, 67, also gave Amanda some grace, noting that she had gotten bitten in the past after putting herself out there. That said, she admitted that it did seem like Amanda “didn’t tell everything.”
“It seemed like there were some things in the story that were left out,” she suspected.
As the RHOBH: After Show continued, Sutton Stracke, 54, said of Amanda, “I think she’s very aloof.”
“But is that a trauma response?” Erika wondered.
“She’s guarding herself in the group,” suggested Kyle.
“I don’t think so. She has this group of people, her customers,” Sutton refuted.
At that point, Erika asked Sutton, “So do you think that we are somehow or another disrupting that and that this is why we’re getting what we’re getting?” Sutton then confirmed, “Yes.”
“And I think that when she interacts with us, she thinks about what those people are thinking,” Kyle agreed, as Erika noted that Amanda treats the cast like they are her clients.
“That’s exactly, yes,” Sutton replied.
Also on the episode, Kyle mentioned that Amanda seemed to be determined to have her business be a main storyline on the series.
“She’s very much coming into this group and wanting to show that she’s a businesswoman. So she’s thinking about that all the time, which I think is what the group is struggling with a little bit,” she explained. “We’re all businesswomen. We want to see the human side of you.”
