Savannah Guthrie, the familiar face millions wake up to, is now living every family’s worst nightmare. Sitting across from her longtime friend and co-anchor Hoda Kotb, Savannah opens up in her first sit-down interview since her mother’s disappearance.
As previously reported, her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, disappeared from her home near Tucson overnight on January 31. One minute she’s living her life, the next… gone. Just like that. In a preview clip of the interview, Savannah talks about the mental spiral that comes with not knowing where her sweet mother could be.
“I imagine her terror,” she told Hoda. “And it is unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought. And I will not hide my face.”
Savanna went on to say, “Someone needs to do the right thing. We are in agony. It is unbearable. And to think of what she went through.”
She continued,
“I wake up every night in the middle of the night, every night,” she continued. “And in the darkness, I imagine her terror. And it is unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought. And I will not hide my face. But she needs to come home now.”
Meanwhile, the details coming out of the investigation make this situation even more chilling.
Nancy was reported missing after she didn’t show up for a scheduled virtual church gathering, something completely out of character. The last time anyone saw her was the night before, around 9:45 p.m., after dinner at her daughter Annie’s house. Authorities now believe this may not be a simple disappearance. They’re treating it as a possible abduction.
Law enforcement, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is fully involved. Surveillance footage shows a masked person tampering with a security camera at Nancy’s home. The suspect is described as a man between 5’9″ and 5’10” with an average build.
Investigators confirmed that Nancy’s blood was found on the porch. There’s also DNA evidence inside the home that doesn’t match, and they’re considering using genetic genealogy to track it down.
Right now, leads are limited. Answers are scarce.
But the family is not sitting still. They’ve put up a $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy’s safe return. The FBI is adding another $50,000 for anything that leads to an arrest or conviction.
