In the build-up to the release of the Malcolm in the Middle revival, titled Life’s Still Unfair, franchise mainstay Bryan Cranston has come out to highlight the necessity of comedy, especially in the current world state. The actor emphasized the need for funny content in a discussion, referring to it as a counter to the tension-inducing news updates of recent times.
Bryan Cranston explains comedy’s importance ahead of Malcolm in the Middle revival
The Breaking Bad star recently noted that with different issues engulfing every corner of the world, comedy is “not even important,” but an indispensable requirement.
“Comedy is essential right now,” Bryan Cranston said while speaking to The Guardian. He added, “It’s not even important; it’s essential. Because it’s a break from the bombardment of nonstop information. People who have the news on 24 hours a day in their homes, I don’t think they realize the damage they’re doing. You might as well make a house full of asbestos or just have radiation constantly emitting through your house.”
Cranston’s statements come ahead of his return to the comedy genre with the four-part limited series Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair. The seven-time Emmy winner earned worldwide acclaim for his stint as Hal in the Linwood Boomer-created sitcom. He portrayed the character throughout Malcolm in the Middle’s seven-season run, featuring in all 151 episodes.
After wrapping up the fan-favorite comedy series, the Golden Globe winner surprised everyone when he shed the sitcom father costume to play a menacing drug kingpin in Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad in 2008.
Now, Bryan Cranston is finally coming back to his comedic roots with Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, which will also feature Jane Kaczmarek, Frankie Muniz, Christopher Masterson, and Justin Berfield, among other returnees. Meanwhile, Caleb Ellsworth-Clark is replacing Erik Per Sullivan as Dewey, who won’t be reprising his role for the revival.
Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair is currently on schedule to premiere on April 10, 2026.
