Early Saturday morning, Lil Wayne took to social media and kept it all the way real with his fans. Just straight emotion about where he stands when some of music’s biggest stages roll around.
He tweeted, “It’s truly a humbling experience when events like Coachella & the Grammys come around & like clockwork, I’m uninvited & uninvolved.”
We’re talking about a rapper who helped shape modern hip-hop, somebody whose influence runs deep through generations. Yet when it comes to major moments like Coachella and the Grammy Awards, Wayne is saying he’s consistently on the outside looking in. Still, Wayne adds, “I appreciate my position or space I hold in ya heart & mind if so bc you’re the humbling experience that’s timeless & 4dat I thk u. Iaintshitwithoutu.”
Now, this isn’t even the first time Wayne has had to speak up about being overlooked. Folks will remember the noise around the Super Bowl Halftime Show, where many fans felt he should’ve at least been in the mix, especially considering his New Orleans roots when the game was hosted there. That moment came and went without him, and now this adds another layer to the story.
He even admitted at the time, “That hurt, it hurt a lot. I thought there was nothing better than that spot, on that stage, on that platform in my city. It broke me, but I’m just trying to put myself back together.”
Still, he didn’t come off bitter. If anything, it sounded like somebody taking stock, recognizing the love that does show up, even when the industry doesn’t.
As much as it may sting, whether he’s on those stages or not, Lil Wayne’s imprint is already stamped all over them.
