EXCLUSIVE: There is major changing of the guard on Chicago Fire. Andrea Newman, who has been on NBC‘s firefighter drama for its entire 14-season run to date and showrunner for the past three seasons, is leaving.
Succeeding her is Chicago Fire co-executive producer Victor Teran who has been named executive producer and showrunner for the upcoming 15th season of the series, from Dick Wolf‘s Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television. Newman joined Chicago Fire after the pilot as co-executive producer. She was promoted to executive producer in Season 6, became co-showrunner alongside series co-creator Derek Haas in 2021 and took the reins as sole showrunner two years later. “Working at Chicago Fire, with the absolute best cast and crew in the business, has been the highlight of my career,” Newman said. “Like so many others, I was inspired to get into TV writing because of Dick, so what a thrill it’s been to work with him and the amazing Wolf team of Peter Jankowski, Rebecca McGill and Anastasia Puglisi. I’m so grateful to them, Derek Haas and the NBC and Universal execs who have been so supportive of the show all along the way. After 14 years, you really do become a family and working with this group will always feel like home.”
Newman is believed to be leaving on her own accord the mothership of OneChicago, which remains the most watched scripted franchise on television. All three Chicago series has been renewed for the 2026-27 season. “We’re sad to say goodbye to Andrea. She’s been at the center of the heart and soul of Chicago Fire’since the beginning and the show thrived under her watch,” Jankowski said “We’re grateful for her commitment to the development of the next generation and know the show will be in great hands with Victor taking the reins.”
Teran has been on Chicago Fire since Season 10 in his first TV series gig. He began his career in the independent film world, rising through the ranks as a production executive and eventually VP of Physical Production at Sidney Kimmel Entertainment. He went on to produce, write and direct his own indie films, including the Sundance Dramatic Competition selection Filly Brown, starring Gina Rodriguez and Edward James Olmos, and the SXSW Competition film Snap. He began writing for television in 2018, developing limited series LA84 before joining Chicago Fire as a staff writer. Teran is repped by Verve.
