Tracee Ellis Ross, of Blackish and Girlfriends, will take over the starring role of Broadway‘s Every Brilliant Thing when Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: SVU, My Mom Jayne) ends her own run on Sunday, July 5.

Hargitay, as previously announced joins the production on Tuesday, May 26, after original star Daniel Radcliffe concludes his February 21 to May 24 run as the play’s sole scripted character.

Ross will perform in the Broadway play from Tuesday, July 7, through Sunday, August 9. That engagement marks the fourth extension of the show at the Hudson Theatre.

The casting and the extension were announced today by Second Half Productions, Seaview, and Gavin Kalin Productions.

Every Brilliant Thing is “an exhilarating and heartwarming play, in which its central character looks back at their life and the glimmers of hope that carried them through—all told through a list of every wonderful, beautiful, and delightful thing that makes life worth living. Written by Olivier Award nominee Duncan Macmillan (People, Places and Things) with Jonny Donahoe, and directed by Olivier & Tony Award nominee Jeremy Herrin (People, Places and Things; Wolf Hall), Every Brilliant Thing is a one-of-a-kind solo show that creates an electric, communal energy between performer and audience, no matter the venue.”

“I’ve been a fan of Tracee’s work for a long time and knew her quick-wit, intelligence and emotional depth would be the perfect fit for Every Brilliant Thing,” said Macmillan. “We are beyond thrilled that she has chosen to make her Broadway debut with us this summer. We can’t wait to welcome her to the Hudson Theatre, and for audiences to experience her unique take on the play.”
