Ever since the release of their proper full-length, the record, boygenius have become full-fledged rock stars. The album, which we named one of the best of the year so far, features the trio of Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, and Phoebe Bridgers celebrating their love for each other through riffy and stirring cuts. “We’ve made a document of our friendship that exists primarily for our gratification that we get to share as something we do,” Baker told AP during their cover story interview earlier this summer. Their live shows, however, are a whole different beast, as tears fly and members make out onstage.

MUNA readied the crowd by playing highlights like “One That Got Away,” “I Know a Place,” and “Silk Chiffon,” where Bridgers joined them onstage. Then, boygenius launched their performance with “Without You Without Them” — the a cappella opener of the record and a signature of their tour, where the three huddle around a single microphone and murmur the song from backstage — the rest of the evening gave way to both devastating and euphoric moments. The band ran through all of the songs from the record and 2018 EP, as well as the three cuts that feature the members from their solo LPs. During the performance, the indie supergroup even played all four songs from their forthcoming EP the rest, which features B-sides from the record.
