Ahead of celebrating 50 years of Hip-Hop at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards, we learned that Cardi B and 21 Savage led the pack of nominees with 12 nominations each, and Coi Leray and GloRilla were tied with 5 nominations each, as Latto and DaBaby tied with 3 nominations each.
Additionally, Drake earned 9 nominations, Burna Boy had 7 nods, and Lil Uzi Vert garnered 4 nominations. As the award show airs later tonight (Tuesday, October 10) at 9 p.m. EST on BET, we’ve learned of all of the honorees awarded and performances enjoyed ahead of the annual ceremony’s premiere.

On Tuesday, October 3, BET taped the show inside of Atlanta, Georgia’s Cobb Energy Center and helping pay homage to 50 years of Hip-Hop and its legendary inventors and contributors, Hollywood Unlocked was present to speak with all generations of Hip-Hop and witness well-deserved flowers being given.
While Jermaine Dupri celebrated 30 years of his So So Def Recordings, he held a reunion for the books as he performed and brought out artists like Bone Crusher, Bow Wow, Dem Franchize Boyz, Ludacris, and Da Brat, who was also the recipient of the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards “Lifetime Achievement Award.”
Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, two legendary DJs, producers, and rappers who created the legendary VERZUZ battle, were both honored with the “Rock The Bells Cultural Influence Award.” Meanwhile, the iconic DJ, producer, and rapper Marley Marl, who has been helmed the inventor of sampling, was recognized with the “I Am Hip Hop Award.”

Hosting the huge Hip-Hop event is Fat Joe and performing at the ceremony are City Girls, DaBaby, Sexyy Red, GloRilla, Fivio Foreign, “Tip “T.I.” Harris, Nelly, Juvenile, Mannie Fresh, Tyrese, Chingy, along with DJ sets from Kid Capri, Kool DJ Red Alert, Scott Storch, Spinderella, DJ Jazzy Jeff, D-Nice, Technician The DJ, and also DJ Holiday as the house DJ. DJ Drama also took the stage with Fabolous.
