The 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards finally premiered to the public on Tuesday evening. As The Shade Room previously reported, the event occurred on October 3 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Additionally, Complex notes that the celebration was hosted by rapper Fat Joe. In case you missed it, here are some fan-favorite performances, the artists who took home the gold, and the honorees of the award ceremony.

From Sexyy Red & DaBaby To The City Girls, Here’s The Artists Who Hit The Stage

The evening started with a fire performance from rappers DaBaby and Sexyy Red. The pair teamed up to perform the remix of DaBaby’s original single, “SHAKE SUMN.”

As DaBaby’s performance continued, Hip Hop legends Juvenile and Mannie Fresh joined him. On Wednesday morning, DaBaby reflected on the performance with some words of gratitude.

“Had to let it sink in a 🥷🏾 just performed ‘PROJECT CHICK’ w/ @juviethegreat & @manniefresh at the awards last night. #HOODCLASSIC🔥 That was my way of putting on for 50 years of Hip-Hop & anybody from the ghetto period ! Especially da SOUTH… I appreciate all parties involved 💯💯 & @bet for letting me set the tone for the HipHop awards last night !…”

The City Girls later took the stage, and JT set things off with a solo performance of her single, “No Bars.” As The Shade Room previously reported, the song was released in July by JT and was accompanied by a resource website for formerly incarcerated women.

Additionally, the ladies’ performance also featured their single, “Face Down.”

As the show continued, it also featured a female-rap cypher curated by Da Brat in partnership with her haircare line, Kaleidoscope. Check out the bars from Scar Lip, Lakeyah, Saucy Santana, and Big Boss Vette below!

Additionally, viewers were also greeted with a performance from Jermaine Dupri alongside artists Ludacris, Lil Jon, Nelly, Chingy, and more! The performance commended thirty years of Dupri’s label, So So Def, as per Forbes.

Lastly, we must note that DJ Drama closed out the award ceremony alongside rappers Fabolous, T.I., and Jeezy.

From ‘Song Of The Year’ To ‘Best International Flow,’ Here’s The Artists Who Took Home The Accolades

Outside of performances, the evening featured some of our favorite artists taking home the gold. Bronx-bred rapper Ice Spice won BET’s “Best Hip Hop Breakout Artist,” as other nominees included Lola Brooke, Sexyy Redd, and more.

As previously reported, Ice Spice recently took home the MTV VMA for 2023 “Best New Artist” in September.

Ghanaian singer and rapper Black Sherif won the BET Hip Hop Award for “Best International Flow.”

While Yung Miami’s ‘Caresha Please’ podcast took home the gold for “Best Hip Hop Platform.” Other award contenders included ‘Drink Champs,’ ‘The Breakfast Club,’ ‘The Joe Budden Podcast,’ and other platforms.

Additionally, Lil Uzi Vert scored “Song Of The Year” with his single “Just Wanna Rock.”

Rappers Drake and 21 Savage took home the award for “Hip Hop Album Of The Year” with their joint project, ‘Her Loss.’

Then, ultimately, Kendrick Lamar scored BET’s “Hip Hop Artist Of The Year.” Contenders for the award also included Cardi B, Burna Boy, J. Cole, and others.

 

From Swizz Beats & Timbaland To Marley Marle, Here Are The Artists Who Were Honored

Outside of the fire performances and stellar winners, the evening featured legends of the genre receiving their flowers. Producers Swizz Beatz and Timbaland accepted the Rock The Bells Cultural Influence Award.

While Hip Hop pioneer and Grammy-winning producer Marley Marl accepted the “I Am Hip Hop” award.

Overall, the evening was filled with good vibes — exemplified by Boosie and Pretty Vee, who had a great time swag surfin’ along with the crowd.
