Many fans consider The Flash a true celebration of all DC films that came before it, featuring a number of jaw-dropping cameos. However, one star of The Flash on The CW denies that he made a cameo in the film, despite what many fans may claim.

Readers beware! Major spoilers for the ending of The Flash film and The Flash CW series lie ahead!

Many of the biggest cameos from The Flash were leaked before the film’s release, including Christopher Reeve and Nicolas Cage’s respective cameos as Superman. One of the most confusing leaks claimed that Teddy Sears would reprise his role as the Arrowverse version of Jay Garrick, a mantle he held for less than season of The Flash before being revealed as the Zoom of Earth-2. While many fans swear to have seen him in the film, Sears claims that he never filmed a cameo:

“I mean… that looks like my likeness. People kept telling me that I was in the new Flash movie,” Sears told TVLine. “I mean, I’m sleep-deprived with a newborn at home, so my memory is a little foggy. But I’m pretty sure I would have remembered shooting a major DC Studios film.”

According to TVLine, representatives from both The CW and DC Studios have confirmed that Teddy Sears does not appear in the film, with the role being credited as “Generic Golden Age Flash representation played [by] no actor of note.” This is perhaps more controversial given the recent debates around AI in art and the morality of resurrecting dead actors through CGI cameos. However, it does lay to rest one mystery left lingering by The Flash.

The Flash’s DC Universe future

Warner Bros. Discovery already has a script for a potential sequel to The Flash, written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, the man behind the two Aquaman movies starring Jason Momoa. However, James Gunn and Peter Safran did not discuss the Flash sequel during their DC Universe presentation.

Directed by Andy Muschietti from a script written by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson, The Flash is inspired by the Flashpoint comic book storyline, which followed Barry Allen as he navigated an altered DC Universe. Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kuber, Flashpoint radically altered the status of the DC Comics universe and led to the launch of the New 52 titles.

In addition to Ezra Miller, The Flash also features Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as two separate versions of Batman, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Antje Traue as Faora-Ul and Sasha Calle as Supergirl. Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Rudy Mancuso and Luke Brandon Field are also on board in undisclosed roles.
