Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece certainly did strike a chord with audiences, and it seems like everyone who has watched the show loves what it delivered. This is just the first part of a grand and epic adventure that awaits us, but One Piece showrunner and writer Matt Owens is already hoping that he will be about to further flesh out Luffy and company’s world with some live-action spin-offs.

During a Reddit AMA session, Owens was asked if he would want to further flesh out the anime world via spin-offs. This is obviously an opportunity he would love to have and he even has a spinoff in mind already that would focus on the character Mihawk, who is the greatest swordsman in the world. He said:

“I would love for that to be the case! There are so many stories we have yet to dive into fully. I’d love to do a young Mihawk series. Seeing his rise through the world, interacting with other prominent figures from the past.”

The world of One Piece is so huge, and the manga and anime are still going strong. There are so many different characters and stories to play with and there’s definitely plenty of room for all kinds of spinoffs! But, if they do decide to eventually go that route, the creative team needs to keep the quality of character development and story on par with the One Piece flagship series.

As for a spinoff exploring Mihawk… hell yeah! That’s a great character to dive into more! I’d watch the heck out of that!
