Recently, Dreyfuss starred in basketball movie Sweetwater and played Santa in festive flick Save Christmas.
But it’s his role in Jaws that has him back in the headlines after a new play about the behind-the-scenes drama that supposedly occurred during filming opened on Broadway.
Dreyfuss has slammed The Shark is Broken for including a rumoured feud between himself and co-star Robert Shaw in the plot, which he denies ever happened.
“I went to see it (the play), to see if it really was gonna hurt. And it did,” he told Vanity Fair.
He added that Ian Shaw, Robert’s son who co-wrote and star’s in the play, never asked for his side of the story.
“And they just decided to make my character a big jerk… The problem is that they made my character the fool. They didn’t do that to Roy [Scheider], and they didn’t do that to Robert. And that hurt because it wasn’t true.”
Dreyfuss suggested that what might have been assumed was a feud was the type of “humour” between them.
