Summary

Hulu’s adaptation of A Court of Thorns and Roses is still in development, with scripts written, but no actors cast yet. The novel series by Sarah J. Maas became a bestseller, and the TV adaptation was announced in 2021. Ronald D. Moore’s involvement in the project raises hopes, but there have been no significant updates on casting or story details so far.

Hulu’s adaptation of A Court of Thorns and Roses gets a development update from Ronald D. Moore, one of the show’s developers. A Court of Thorns and Roses is a fantasy novel series by acclaimed author Sarah J. Maas. The book follows the story of a huntress named Feyre, who slaughters a wolf but soon comes to realize the grave consequences of killing a magical creature.

As per TV Line, Moore provides an update as to the status of A Court of Thorns and Roses. Moore confirms that the show is “still in development.” Moore and his team have “written some scripts,” but do not yet have actors for A Court of Thorns and Roses. Check out the full quote from Moore below:

It’s still in development. We’ve written some scripts, and we’re just sort of waiting. I think the whole town is kind of waiting to see if we have actors before things really move forward, but it’s still in development.

The novel A Court of Thorns and Roses was first released back in 2015. Becoming a New York Times Bestseller, the novel was followed up by four additional books, most recently in 2021 with A Court of Silver Flames. The TV adaptation of A Court of Thorns and Roses was first announced in March 2021, a month after the release of the fifth novel.

Moore has been tied to the project since its first announcement. This news was promising due to Moore’s work on the hit fantasy TV series Outlander. As hopeful as this talent may be, however, the announcement of A Court of Thorns and Roses has not led to significant development updates. No cast nor additional story details have been revealed about Hulu’s A Court of Thorns and Roses.

While this sluggishness may have previously cast doubt on the prospects of A Court of Thorns and Roses, Moore’s most recent comments seem promising for the fantasy series. Since things are not “really mov[ing] forward” in the absence of actors, it is likely that it will still be at least a few years before A Court of Thorns and Roses hits the small screen. Hopefully, the adaptation can be delivered to audiences after this extremely long wait.
