Mike Jones got into a dispute when NLE Choppa last week and it’s making him want to re-record his old music.
Choppa dropped his new song “Cmon Freestyle” in October sampling Jones’ classic 2004 song “Still Tippin.”
However, after its release, Jones claimed he never gave NLE Choppa permission to use the sample.
“Don’t care about getting respect especially if the respect wasn’t shown 4 months ago prior to releasing the music without getting the business clear!” he said. “I told y’all #Welcome2TheMusicBusiness #StayTuned For Receipts & I wish a N-GGA Would.”
NLE Choppa then accused Mike Jones of “trying to copyright a song he got cleared.”
“Ion know if it’s Mike Jones or his team but on everything y’all dead wrong for trying to copyright a song I got cleared,” he wrote on X. “That’s some hating shit especially for a young n-gga like me that’s just tryna please his fans. Ion feel that I lost dumb respect but it’s cool fasho.
“This man lame for that. I’m partnered with a major label! They not even going to release a song if it ain’t CLEARED. If that was the case you would’ve sued instead of copyrightng! Anybody can make a COPYRIGHT CLAIM! That don’t mean the record ain’t cleared. Broke activities.”
Choppa then claimed Jones doesn’t even own the rights to the original song.
Now, Mike Jones has revealed he’s planning to re-record “Still Tippin” and other songs from his catalog in different ways.
“Since everybody wanna copy and remake my old shit w/o doing the proper business, I’m a do like @taylorswift and just RE RECORD ALL my SINGLES!!” he wrote on Instagram.
“since these NEW artist think they can do it, SO CAN I, I use to be BIG on creating original work & not going back to it to re make it, cuz I can always create new, but I see now year round, all these new artist is steady coming out using it, so I might as well Re make & remix my own shit to huh & just get different features to turn up with me on it!!!
“That way it’s no clearance issues right, didn’t kno y’all wanted STILL TIPPIN to be remade every year or every other year, hell that’s all y’all had to say LMAO, I will make it my job to release a remake/sample, what ever y’all wanna call it, with new artists that on the rise! just don’t say shit when I’m doing it.”
In another post, Mike Jones doubled down on the fact he owns the song despite NLE Choppa’s comments.
“if we OWNING and having equity % in yo work before it REVERTS back to u 100% so yes I still own this shit , I own what’s mines till it’s all BACK MINES!!” he said. “If u still don’t understand u can always hit me in the DM for clarity or clarification unless u wanna just clout chase n troll to the other social media blogs that’s on u.
“but u have some artist who don’t have NO OWNERSHIP in they shit to where they can’t even have a say so!!! Oppose to someone who DOES!! The argument from what it seems like is if I have Ownership in my shit or not right ? And whatever agreement me and warner have on my shit , is that.
“and if I wanna re make n Re do any of my shit , since I see y’all doing it , while still maintaining my ownership in that equity over there while still getting checks quarterly annually is cool with me!
He added: “Cuz in 17 years , I’m a have the old one back to me at 100% and all these new ones I’m finna do , gone also already be to me at 100% I’m on the inside and u all on the OUTSIDE- #StayTuned.”
