The Bear star Jeremy Allen White has been praised for his performance in that series and he’s at an exciting point in his career where lots of filmmakers and studios want to work with him. As you might imagine, one of the big studios asked him to come in and meet for “a kind of Marvel-y movie,” and that didn’t really go over well because of his skepticism with the superhero genre and he thinks he “played it all wrong.”

During an interview with GQ, the actor shared what happened in the meeting which led the studio executives to give him the “F –k you”. He said he told the executives, “Tell me about why should I do your movie.” He added, “They didn’t respond well to that. They were like, ‘F –k you.’ And I was like, ‘Right on.’”

White doesn’t mention the studio or the project that he met for, but the executives clearly didn’t like his attitude. He went on to talk about his confusion and frustration over how major superhero or tentpole films seem to be viewed as “the pinnacle” of every rising star’s career.

He explained: “I am confused at how the pinnacle of an actor’s career has ended up in that place. They get really good filmmakers to do those movies and obviously, they get really good actors to do those movies. I played it the way I wanted to play it.”

The actor then says that he prefers leading a “$25 million drama that I think most actors want to make,” and added, “I’m just buying myself more time and being able to do what I really love to do. And that’s very much how I view these things.”

Hey, if he’s happy making the films and shows that he makes, then that’s all that matters. His next film project is The Iron Claw, which is a wrestling biopic about the legendary Von Erich family. He takes on the role of Kerry Von Erich. The movie actually looks great!

The movie tells the true story of the inseparable Von Erich brothers, “who make history in the intensely competitive world of professional wrestling in the early 1980s. Through tragedy and triumph, under the shadow of their domineering father and coach, the brothers seek larger-than-life immortality on the biggest stage in sports.”

Regardless of what kind of projects White takes, he’s a talented actor and he’s never going to have to worry about getting work.
