The Real Housewives of New Jersey star Melissa Gorga is opening up about some pretty scary health issues that she discovered before filming the upcoming RHONJ season.
Not only that, but she is commenting on her feud with Teresa Giudice. This is all ahead of the new season of RHONJ, where both Melissa and Teresa will star.
Melissa, who is usually light and fun, recently opened up about a health scare that she’s going through and how she ignored the warning signs on her Podcast called On Display, which is the same name as her single from several years ago.
According to Heavy, Melissa revealed that she is “severely anemic.” The RHONJ star explained that the network mandated a health check before beginning to film season 14 of the show. At first, she put off the health check. After that, her doctor called to tell her that there was something “off” about her results.
The RHONJ star later met with a specialist who told her she was “severely anemic” and could potentially need a blood transfusion.
In her podcast, Melissa went on to explain the condition, “Let me just explain what anemia is. It’s a condition, in which the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells, and those are very important because red blood cells provide oxygen to your body, so it’s really what keeps the blood flowing. It keeps the air flowing. “
She continued, “It sounds like it’s not a big deal, anemia, right? Because everyone is like, ‘Oh, just take iron and you’ll be better.’ But people have strokes because of it, brain aneurysms, there’s things that happen when people don’t catch that they have anemia. And it’s not easy to catch unless you get blood work.”
Melissa went on to explain the warning signs she missed, such as fatigue and shortness of breath. As far as treatments go, Melissa revealed that she is getting multiple treatments a week.
“I’m getting infused once a week. And I do feel better after I have an infusion. But I definitely need a ton more. My doctor said, ‘If you can do it twice a week, let’s do it.’ Because we need to like back my body up with that. But that’s a little scary thing.”
Now Melissa is also talking about her longtime feud with Teresa while discussing season 14 of RHONJ. Essentially, the two won’t be speaking very much in the new season, and Melissa insists the show will be better for it.
She tells PEOPLE, “It’s very different from last season… because there’s not a lot of communication, so I think it’s different and better. I think the fans will feel refreshed as well. I mean, weren’t you sick of it? It’s so much to describe right now, but I think everyone knows where we’re at. Everyone’s reading it. I think it’s, like I said, we’re at a place of peace. I think everyone needs a minute. Everyone needs a break and there’s just a period on it right now.”
