The alleged mistress of Chris Bassett made a small confession: She made it all up.
In fact, the woman said she “never” actually “met” the husband of Real Housewives of Potomac star Candiace Dillard Bassett. Earlier this year, Ayanna Williams claimed she got pregnant with Chris’ baby and he encouraged her to terminate.
As the allegations surfaced, castmate Gizelle Bryant was quick to discuss it with Us Weekly, sharing her thought that the story seemed “very believable.” Gizelle has regularly been accused of airing out false rumors to keep her spot on the show.
According to a recent post, Williams confessed she made up the whole affair.
“I lied,” wrote Williams, in a post shared by @allabouttrh on Instagram. “I never met Chris Bassett. I never talked to him.”
She went on to say, “I made the whole thing up. Im sorry that my actions hurt people.”
Fans soon reacted to Williams’ statement.
“I don’t think anyone believed the claims that Chris Bassett cheated on Candiace Dillard but what is wrong with people to make up lies for 15 seconds of fame…disgusting!” wrote @allabouttrh in a caption.
Another viewer added in the comments, “Why do people find joy in destroying other peoples relationship? What do they stand to gain? Chris better sue.”
A third user suspected legal action: “This is weird. [Candiace and Chris] had to have had a hand in her statement. They probably threatened to sue.”
A fourth fan wrote, “Girl just say Gizelle and Robyn put you up to it. And go away.”
Meanwhile, Candiace called out a different performance. “I told yall season 8 was going to give you (bad) Broadway,” she wrote, assumedly alluding to one or more of her co-stars.
“Close the curtain,” she ended her tweet, adding a tomato emoji.

In a separate tweet, Candiace seemingly addressed her past comments about Robyn. “There is no greater feeling than having the tape roll on you and know you still stand by every single word you said. 💅🏾,” she wrote.
