Mitchell Starc and Alyssa Healy face a unique set of challenges in their relationship, both playing their sport at the highest level – but who knew this one moment would be their darkest?
Speaking on Cameron and Alison Daddo’s podcast Separate Bathrooms, the cricketing couple revealed what their relationship looks like behind the scenes – and the moment Healy describes as a huge betrayal.
Tragedy struck when the athlete returned home to find Starc had been watching Billions, the show they’d been watching together.
“There’s Mitch on the couch watching it without me, and I’ve never felt so betrayed in my life,” she says.

“I literally said, ‘I wish that I walked in and there was another woman here, because I actually think this is so much worse’.”
Starc reveals that despite his wife’s heartbreak, they moved past the drama.
“We ended up watching The Last of Us together on tour, so we’ve gotten past it.”
With conflicting schedules spread all across the world, it would be difficult for any couple to maintain a loving relationship. Healy and Starc explained how they manage it.

“We have the ability to FaceTime or WhatsApp or call one another, basically, any time of the day,” Healy explains.
“Time zones don’t exactly help us all the time, especially when, you know, I’m playing in one part of the world and he’s playing in the other, you end up missing one another halfway through the day.”
To combat missing the important moments, Healy says the couple focuses on simply knowing “what’s going on in our lives and then making sure that we’re supporting one another at the same time”.
Being apart throughout the year while they both work on their sporting careers helps the moments they do spend together feel even more special.
“You get to spend the time together, but you still know what’s going on in the other person’s life. So I think it kind of makes it easy and it makes it more seamless,” Healy adds.

The couple, who married in 2016, have faced their fair share of pressure from online trolls throughout their careers – a difficult concept to grapple with when hundreds of kilometres from your loved ones.
Healy credits communication to support one another in the harder times: “The best way that we know how to handle that is to support one another through it.”

“And also, if it takes a conversation about how to fix things on the field, then, you know, we’re both skilled enough to do that,” she adds.
“But it’s moreso just supporting and making sure that mentally we’re both fine.”
