After nearly a decade of waiting, it’s time to return to the wastes of Mad Max. The first trailer for the Furiosa prequel starring Anya Taylor-Joy has finally been released online.
It’s been a long time since fans of the Mad Max franchise have been able to see the wastelands on the silver screen. Yet it seems George Miller and his team haven’t broken their stride since 2014’s Fury Road, with the trailer for Furiosa showing off an action-packed prequel starring the tour de force that is Anya Taylor-Joy as the titular heroine. While the world of Mad Max may be a wasteland, Furiosa already seems to be fertile ground to expand the universe beyond a simple prequel. With a star-studded cast led by Anya Taylor-Joy and cars ready to twist some metal, this trailer proves the project has a shot at being one of the biggest blockbusters of 2024.
Chris Hemsworth (Avengers, Extraction) and Tom Burke (Mank, Modern Love) are set to co-star opposite Anya Taylor-Joy. Details regarding their roles are being kept under lock and key, with Warner Bros. teasing that the feature explores the origins of Furiosa before her encounter with Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) in Fury Road.
George Miller is back in the director’s chair for Furiosa, working a screenplay he co-wrote with his frequent collaborator Nico Lathouris. The film’s cast also includes Nathan Jones and Angus Sampson, reprising their Fury Road roles as Rictus Erectus and the Organic Mechanic, respectively.
In addition to George Miller and Nico Lathouris, Furiosa also features the return of Mad Max: Fury Road film editor Margaret Sixel, costume designer Jenny Beavan and composer Junkie XL. The film is the fifth entry in the Mad Max franchise.
