Will Smith is opening up and admitting that he’s “made tons of mistakes” and that “fame can be a unique monster” following his wife Jada Pinkett Smith‘s controversial and viral book tour and the 2022 Oscars slap drama.

As we all know, the ‘7 Pounds‘ actor has had tons of criticism thrown his way after not only slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars, but after having his wife of 26 years drop a memoir, in which she detailed everything about her life, and those that are apart of it, like her husband and their children.
After Jada Pinkett Smith went on her ‘Worthy‘ book tour, she and Will’s private lives went completely viral, leaving their marriage under a full microscope. We not only learned how the Smiths built “a beautiful sex room” to escape their children, but the most shocking thing that came from her revelations was that the two actors had been separated for 7 years (from 2016 up until the night of the Oscars slap in 2022).
For the most part, the ‘I Am Legend‘ actor remained quite tightlipped on all of the controversies surrounding his marriage, including some outside forces alleging that he and his longtime business partner and best friend Duane Martin had been having a secret affair. Smith still kept his dignity intact, leaving his representatives and wife to handle the unwanted attention.

However, while he was in Saudi Arabia for the Red Sea Film Festival, Will Smith ended up opening up and reflecting on the good and bad moments in his life over the past few years. On Saturday (December 2), Smith talked about numerous headlines he’s been in that inevitably make up these “many adversities” he’s recently been facing.
Some footage from the event was captured and posted by Deadline, and in it, he recalls the time when he was filming a project in Mozambique. While there, he said an ordinary woman happened to realize who he was and yelled out, “Getting Jiggy with it,” causing him to laugh.

Smith goes on to explain, “Fame is a unique monster, and I’ve had to be really careful. You can’t get excited when everybody is saying good things about you. Because the more you take when people are saying good things about you, the more hurt you’re going to be when people are saying bad things about you. What I’ve experienced, with ‘my adversities for the last couple of years,’ is I have to be clear about who I am and what I am attempting to do in the world. And I can’t need others to applaud for me to stay focused on my mission.”
The legendary actor continued to reveal, “I have always wanted to put good into the world. I have always wanted to make people smile. I have always been devoted to the process of joy and inspiration. I want you to feel good. I am here because in my deepest heart, I want you to feel good. And at the same time, I am deeply human, and my virtue is not yet perfected. And I am in the process of perfecting my virtue. So, I would say the greatest thing that has happened is I have been deeply humbled and deeply inspired to perfect my light and that’s what this next phase of my life is going to be: perfecting and shining my light as bright as I can, on as many people as I can.”
