Amazon is working on a live-action Marvel series revolving around Spider-Man Noir.

According to Variety, Amazon is developing a new take on Spider-Man that won’t feature Peter Parker. The series, which is set in its own universe, is being envisioned as a tale about an “older, grizzled superhero” operating in 1930s New York City.

Oren Uziel (The Lost City, Mortal Kombat) and Steve Lightfoot (The Punisher) attached to write and executive produce the Spider-Man Noir series. Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher and former Sony chief Amy Pascal are also on board as executive producers.

Who is Spider-Man Noir?

Spider-Man Noir was one of the highlights of the Oscar-winning animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Nicolas Cage voiced the Into the Spider-Verse version of the character, but he is not expected to return in the live-action series from Amazon.

Spider-Man Noir is a unique take on the classic Spider-Man comic book character. This version of Peter Parker was created by David Hine, Carmine Di Giandomenico and Marko Djurdjevic, with the character making his first comic book appearance happening in 2009’s Spider-Man: Noir #1.

The main difference between Noir and the traditional Spider-Man is the setting. In the Marvel Noir universe, also known as Earth-90214, Peter Parker is a teenage private detective who lives in the crime-ridden New York City of the 1930s. Instead of the bright and colorful costume that the regular Spider-Man is known for, Parker dons a black outfit and fedora, giving him a more noir-inspired look.

Amazon is also working on a live-action series about the Spider-Man character Silk. The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang is overseeing the series, which is titled Silk: Spider Society.
