A 7-Star Rillaboom Tera Raid was announced for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet players. The activity will be held over two limited-time periods: the first one will run from July 28 to July 30, while the second period will occur from August 4 to August 6. Players will only be able to capture one copy of the Generation 8 Pokémon in the new Nintendo Switch games through these raids, but they will be able to challenge it multiple times for rewards, such as EXP Candy and Tera Shards.

7-Star Tera Raids have been happening frequently in the new titles, offering players a chance to obtain creatures not initially available in Paldea. Most recently, players could tackle the Delphox Tera Raid in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet for an opportunity to capture the final evolution of the Gen 6 Fire-type starter. Now, players will be able to challenge a 7-Star Rillaboom Tera Raid and get a chance to capture this Pokémon with a Mightiest Mark ribbon to showcase their success in beating the activity.

As was shared by SerebiiNet on Twitter, the 7-Star Rillaboom Raid in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will feature the Gen 8 Pokémon with a Normal Tera Type. It is common for Tera Raid encounters to feature Pokémon with Tera Types different from their regular typing, which is the case with Rillaboom. This means that the Pokémon, originally a Grass-type, will only be weak against Fighting-type moves during the activity, rather than Fire-type and Flying-type attacks, for instance. This will require players to carefully choose who they bring into battle.

This becomes especially true when considering Rillaboom’s possible moveset in the 7-Star Tera Raid. Most activities of this rank feature creatures with six different moves rather than the regular four, so they have more coverage against challengers. While it is impossible to accurately predict exactly what moves it will have, as a Normal Tera Type Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet, Rillaboom is likely to know the Normal-type Boomburst. Wood Hammer should be its main STAB Grass-type move. The big trick to beating Rillaboom will come down to whether it knows the Flying-type Acrobatics or not – and this is where the strategy will come into place.

Boomburst and Wood Hammer, if truly a part of Rillaboom’s moveset, are expected to hit hard, regardless of their type advantage over the Trainer’s chosen Pokémon.

Tips & Best Pokémon To Beat 7-Star Rillaboom Tera Raid In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Iron Hands Fighting-/Electric-type Pokemon for Raid Dens in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

If the Rillaboom in the 7-Star Tera Raid knows Acrobatics, it will be able to super-effective counter most Fighting-type Pokémon that oppose it. This may be a tricky fight, especially when choosing the right Pokémon to take into battle. The best Fighting-types in the game are all weak against Flying-type, so either players need to counter that risk or choose a different Pokémon. If Rillaboom knows Acrobatics in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the best Pokémon to use may be Lucario.

Lucario does not take super-effective damage from Flying-moves and, in addition to that, reduces the damage taken by any Normal-, Grass-, and Dark-type moves that Rillaboom may use by half. If Rillaboom knows any Fighting- or Ground-type moves, however, Lucario may be in trouble, as it is weak to both those types. While weak to possible usage of Acrobatics, a great Fighting-type to use is Iron Hands. It may be hard to manage the Iron Hands’ build in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in the 7-Star Tera Raid against Rillaboom, but if it does survive the initial HP-sacrificing buff, it may be able to endure the fight against the opponent.

Iron Hands’ Belly Drum and Drain Punch strategy is one of the best for Tera Raids, though players must be wary that there is a chance of Rillaboom knocking out the Paradox Pokémon before they can restore HP.

Another great Fighting-type to employ, though susceptible to Acrobatics, is Koraidon. The Legendary Pokémon is abundantly used in Tera Raids because it is strong, sturdy, and reliable. With Collision Course getting a 33% boost if it lands a super-effective hit, this may be a great way to clear out Rillaboom’s HP bar in the 7-Star Tera Raid. Koraidon, like Iron Hands, can learn the Fighting-type move called Drain Punch, which is also a great way of restoring HP after they take any damage from Rillaboom’s powerful moves in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet – even if they are not super-effective.

While also susceptible to taking super-effective damage from Acrobatics, a fantastic option to take into the 7-Star Rillaboom Tera Raid is Annihilape. This Gen 9 Pokémon’s dual Ghost- and Fighting-type grants it full immunity from any of Rillaboom’s Normal-type attacks, including the possibly devastating Boomburst. At the same time, it can land super-effective blows on Rillaboom due to its Fighting-type moves in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. With Bulk Up, Close Combat, and Drain Punch, it can be a great option to rely on when facing the Gen 8 creature. Players should not, under any circumstances, use Final Gambit. While this can be a powerful move, it causes Annihilape to faint.

In 7-Star Raids, every single faint negatively impacts the team, so even if it lands a strong hit against Rillaboom, Final Gambit should never be used, as it will count toward the activity’s failure. Toxicroak’s build in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has been proven useful before, and it may be again. It must, however, be adapted into a Fighting-type build focusing on Swords Dance-empowered versions of Drain Punch and Close Combat. This will ensure hard hits against the opponent while also mitigating any incoming damage with the healing proprieties of Drain Punch.

Toxicroak is, nevertheless, also susceptible to super-effective hits if Rillaboom knows Acrobatics.

To counter the Flying-type weakness, players are encouraged to look away from Fighting-type Pokémon and into different categories capable of learning Fighting-type moves. A strong option to use, in case Rillaboom does not know a strong Ground- or Dark-type attack, is a Bronzong that knows the Fighting-type move Body Press. With a high DEF stat in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, this move will be boosted, and the user will be more protected against Rillaboom’s ATK stat.

If Rillaboom does not know any Fighting-type moves, another option is a Fighting Tera-Type Kingambit. The Gen 9 evolution of Bisharp can rely on its usual Kowtow Cleave build for the portion in which Rillaboom is not protected by a shield and then transition into Brick Break for super-effective attacks. This Fighting-type move can substitute the regular Sucker Punch, for instance. Kingambit’s build in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet also requires it to know Swords Dance for improved ATK and Iron Defense for better DEF.

With only one weakness, Rillaboom may be a very tricky opponent to beat in the 7-Star Tera Raid. Failure or success will ultimately come down to Rillaboom’s definitive moveset and what players choose to counter that while also landing super-effective attacks to break its shields. The moveset will only be known when the Tera Raid goes live, so it is important to point out that the best Pokémon to counter the Rillaboom Tera Raid in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are merely suggestions that are subject to change.
