Sony has announced shifts to the release dates for several highly-anticipated films. This decision comes amid ongoing Hollywood strikes involving the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA).
The third installment of the hit Venom series, which remains unnamed, is now slated for a theatrical release on July 12, 2024. Sony has also amended the release date of Kraven the Hunter, moving it from its original date of October 6, 2023, to August 30, 2024. In another Marvel-related adjustment, the release date of Madame Web has been brought forward by two days, with the film now set to premiere on February 14, 2024.
Sony’s Spider-Verse follow-up loses its release date
The release date shakeup also impacts Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The sequel to the award-winning Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse has been temporarily removed from Sony’s film schedule.
The decision to reorganize the release dates reflects the impact of the Hollywood strikes on the film industry. It also highlights the need for a resolution to the disputes involving the WGA and SAG-AFTRA. The rescheduling of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse in particular is contingent upon the resolution of these strikes, as the recording sessions for the movie are now on hold.
However, with the revised dates, Sony continues to promise an exciting line-up of films for Marvel fans. These adaptations of beloved comic book characters offer audiences the chance to dive deeper into the rich and diverse character portfolio of Spider-Man, whose villains have taken over Sony’s Marvel universe.
