Chaka Khan, the iconic singer, recently revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone that she has let go of her frustration over Kanye West sampling her voice on his 2003 single, “Through the Wire.” After years of expressing her discontent, Khan has finally chosen to move on and release any grudges she held against the renowned rapper.
When Kanye West released “Through the Wire,” which prominently featured a sample of Chaka Khan’s voice and song, “Through The Fire,” the singer was initially displeased. She expressed her frustration, feeling that her voice sounded off on his track. Just last year she said felt likea chimpunk on the sped up version. For years, Khan held onto this resentment, making her feelings known to the public.
However, in her recent interview, Khan revealed that she has undergone a change of heart. She expressed her decision to no longer hold grudges and to let go of the anger she had harbored towards Kanye West. In a surprising twist, Chaka Khan also admitted that she shares some of the blame for the initial misunderstanding. She acknowledged that she should have communicated her concerns directly to Kanye West instead of expressing her frustration through the media. “You know, that was my fault, too, for feeling salty about that in any way. Because if I understood the rap game more completely, like I do now, then that wouldn’t have been a big deal to me.”
She continued, “I’m done. Please. I’m not hanging on to any silly grudges.

Khan has spoken at length about “Through the Wire. While appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, where she explained that Ye approached her after his 2002 hospitalization, “He said, “You were so instrumental in my healing process,” Khan recalled at the time. “I changed the words a little bit to the song but I had to eat through a wire. Jaws wired shut through a straw.” It meant that much to me. It really got my heart, tugged at my string. I was like, yeah, use it.”
However, after hearing the song, Khan shared that she wouldn’t have offered the sample if she knew her vocals would be sped-up like that.
“Then when it came out, I was pissed,” she said. “It was a little insulting. Not insulting, I thought it was stupid. If I’d known he was gonna do that, I would have said, “Hell no.”
While she’s finally putting this behind her, she went on to tell the outlet about her plans for the future and it doesn’t include touring anymore.
She told Rolling Stone that she will continue to do shows but not a full-on tour. “I got this rich-ass life. I’ve got great-grandchildren I want to get to know better. So I will not do another tour. I’ll do dates, but it won’t look like a tour. They’ll be far enough apart that I can have time to sleep in between.”
As for retiring from performing, she added, “Well, I might do that three or four times, like other bitches do [laughs].”
