Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem was one of the most enjoyable experiences that I had watching a movie this year. I loved the movie and I loved how the creative team brought their totally radical and lovable characters to life in it. It was so fun and unique and I’m excited to see how the story continues to play out in the upcoming sequel.

One thing we know about the sequel for sure is that it will introduce Shredder as the main villain. It was previously explained that the sequel will be a “villain-forward” movie that will focus on Shredder. Director Jeff Rowe said:

“Shredder is just a great character. He’s an iconic, classic, loved character. He’s like the Joker. You know who he is, even if you’re not a fan of the source material. I think we definitely wanna do a villain-forward film. We’re currently trying to make decisions about that, but those decisions for us as filmmakers are always going to come from the place of what tells the best story, specifically about our main characters, the Turtles.”

Rowe is now offering some new insight on the movie, telling Empire: “Shredder used to be the main villain before we pivoted away from that,” he tells Empire, reasoning: “They saved Joker for The Dark Knight.” He goes on to say that Shredder will be “100 Times Scarier Than Superfly” in the sequel:

“The one thing I can say without spoiling anything is, [Shredder] needs to be 100 times scarier than Superfly – who is a credible villain, he’s dangerous, he’s strong, he seems like he could mess the Turtles up. Shredder needs to be that, just significantly more.”

The director previously teased Shredder’s involvement, saying: “When you’ve grown and you’ve become confident as a teenager, to then go up against a foe that is three times scarier than anything you’ve ever seen before, that’s interesting and dramatic.”

The big question is, will the young heroes actually be able to defeat Shredder? Rowe weighed in on that, saying, “It’ll be really interesting to see these fun-loving characters go up against something that maybe they can’t stop.”

It would be interesting if they actually get their asses kicked by Shredder! Shredder is way more skilled and experienced than they are. I’m sure they’ll beat him, but they will get brutally beat down in the process.
