The House of the Dragon team is bringing back an iconic Game of Thrones location in its second season: The Wall. Recent footage from the production set has revealed this massive fortification, known for its vital role in the original series.

For those unfamiliar with the lore of George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice saga, The Wall is a towering structure located at the northern boundary of the Seven Kingdoms in the world of Game of Thrones. Built by the earliest settlers to defend the realm from the dangers lurking in the North, The Wall is a significant location throughout the books and television series.

First look at The Wall in House of the Dragon season 2

In the season seven finale of Game of Thrones, The Wall meets its end at the hands of the Night King. However, House of the Dragon is set several years earlier, providing an opportunity to once again explore The Wall in its undamaged glory. Check out the season two set footage below.

The Wall’s inclusion implies that House of the Dragon might venture beyond the confines of George R. R. Martin’s Fire and Blood. Joining the narrative dots, it’s plausible that the character taking us this far North could be Jace Targaryen, as his mother Rhaneyra Targaryen sends him to Winterfell to gain the allegiance of Lord Cregan Stark.

What you need to know about House of the Dragon

House of the Dragon is set around 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and follows House Targaryen – the noble house of Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen from Thrones – as a civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons breaks out between claimants to the Iron Throne.

Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan J. Condal served as co-showrunners on House of the Dragon season one. They also executive produced the season alongside George R. R. Martin. The series features a star-studded cast that includes Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Paddy Considine, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, and Sonoya Mizuno.
