According to sources close to Dr. Bailey, she had been subjected to a toxic work environment, enduring alleged bullying and harassment from President Moseley and other university officials. Despite her numerous attempts to seek support and address the issue, Dr. Bailey was allegedly left unsupported and disregarded. In a heartbreaking letter before her passing, she detailed the bullying she faced after disclosing her mental illness to the university, as reported by HBCUBuzz.

Three days after Dr. Bailey’s death, the school released a statement: “The Lincoln University community is mourning the loss of beloved alum and leader Dr. Antoinette “Bonnie” Candia-Bailey. Dr. Bailey passed away earlier this week. She was a gifted colleague and always a passionate advocate for Lincoln University, HBCUs, and other causes in which she believed. Dr. Bailey had many friends in the Lincoln University community. As a Blue Tiger community, we grieve with them and send our deepest condolences to Dr. Bailey’s family.” In response to these distressing revelations, the community of Jefferson City has come together to demand accountability. Using the hashtag #FireMoseley, they are raising awareness about the tragic passing of Dr. Bailey and shedding light on the need for immediate action.

President Sherman Bonds of the Lincoln University National Alumni Association has also addressed the university’s Board of Curators, expressing dire concern for the institution’s health and calling for a change in leadership.

“As the President of the Lincoln University (National) Alumni Association, I have become compelled to demand a change in the Office of the Presidency of the University effective immediately. The Board of Curators has the fiduciary responsibility to ensure there comes no harm to the institution’s mission or brand. Today, I along with many others assert this appeal to you and the Board. We the community, family members, friends, and alumni seek a path to healing. The most significant element of healing is a platform where we can all meet and release our anxieties for the good of our beloved alma mater. Your leadership in this endeavor requires resilience and strength. To care for others in a time of need exalts all other measures for a new beginning when required.”

The death of Dr. Bonnie Bailey has sent shockwaves through the community of Jefferson City, MO. The circumstances surrounding her passing have highlighted the urgent need for change within Lincoln University’s leadership. The community’s rallying cry for accountability and the termination of President Moseley is a call to action that demands a thorough investigation into the allegations and a commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for all university community members.
