Sublime announce first album in 30 years

Mallorca Lee, a 51-year-old Scottish DJ from the popular 1990s dance group Ultra-Sonic, recently shared the heartbreaking news of his terminal cancer diagnosis. Now, fans, friends and Lee’s fellow musicians have launched a campaign to push an old album to the top of the charts in the remaining few months he has left to live.

“Ive been diagnosed with terminal cancer, the doctor said it could be a matter of months,” Lee wrote in a poignant Facebook post. “I apologise for not telling all of my family and friends individually, it just breaks my heart a thousand times and I don’t have the strength to go through it all over and over again.”

Lee’s career in electronic music first started in the 1990s when he founded Ultra-Sonic, with whom he journeyed from playing small illicit raves to performing on stages across the world. He then went on to join Public Domain at the turn of the century before pursuing a solo career as a DJ and producer in 2003.

The uplifting initiative was kickstarted by musician Ross Ferguson when he encouraged fans to support Lee’s album, The Best of Ultra-Sonic, according to Scottish outlet STV News.

“Some of the best times in my life were shared with Mallorca Lee,” Ferguson wrote on social media. “The last few days have been rough and we can all feel helpless at a time like this. This is something we can do… Please support this campaign to get this album as far up the charts as possible, show him the love he has shown all of us over the years.”

A slew of heartfelt comments ensued as fans took to social media to share their thoughts, prayers and memories with Lee. It wasn’t long before his track “Obsession” climbed to #1 on iTunes, per Daily Record.
