Last year it was announced that Steven Spielberg was planning to direct an original film that will center on Frank Bullitt. This classic film character was originally played by Steve McQueen in the 1968 film Bullitt and Bradley Cooper is set to star in the new movie, which Spielberg is planning on directing next.

This is a project that I’ve been pretty excited about and thanks to Spielberg’s producing partner Kristie Macosko Krieger, we have an update on the film to share with you. In that update, she says the movie will be “wildly entertaining.” She told GamesRadar:

“I’m producing it. Steven [Spielberg] and Josh Singer, who is writing the script, they are working on the story. I hope we have a script soon as the writers’ strike put us behind a bit. But they are working on it – I couldn’t tell you if it’s the next movie we are making as I don’t know at this point. I think that it will be a wildly entertaining film.”

The original film was directed by Peter Yates, and it was based on the 1963 novel Mute Witness. The film became McQueen’s most iconic role, and he portrayed a detective who investigates the death of a mob informant he was hired to protect. The movie is famous for including one of the best and most exciting car chases in movie history. McQueen even did his own stunts in the movie with a modified Ford Mustang.

We don’t have any plot details to share for the new movie, but it will follow Bullitt on an entirely new adventure.

Josh Singer (The Post, Spotlight) is set to write the script. McQueen’s son Chad McQueen and granddaughter Molly McQueen are also executive producing.
