The Weeknd, no stranger to French electro magic after working with Daft Punk, Kavinsky and Gesaffelstein, is back for more after teasing a collaboration with Justice.

The iconic “D.A.N.C.E.” producers are currently forging a full-scale comeback after teasing unreleased music and confirming a new album, their first since 2016’s Woman, which is expected to release in the spring of 2024. There will also be a Justice tour this year, according to Pedro Winter, founder of the influential Ed Banger label.

The Weeknd and Justice appeared onstage together at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, where the former hosted an event in celebration of the HBO original drama series The Idol, which he co-created. Following the world premiere of the first two episodes of the series—in which The Weekend also starred—at the Palais des Festivals, Justice performed a DJ set at an official red carpet after party.

It now seems a collaboration is on the horizon after The Weekend took to his Instagram to share a number of images from that encounter, which took place over eight months ago. He also posted a cryptic image containing co-branding with Justice’s signature cross logo.

The flames of the rumors were then fanned in a post shared by Mike Dean, a prolific record producer with whom The Weekend worked alongside to create 2015’s Beauty Behind the Madness album as well as his single “Where You Belong” for the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack.

It’s worth noting that The Weeknd said he recorded his “final feature” back in August 2023—that is unless Daft Punk reunited—before ultimately appearing on Diddy’s single “Another One of Me” in September.

Meanwhile, 12 years after compiling his first three mixtapes into his breakthrough Trilogy album, The Weeknd is now gearing up to release another triptych. He recently posted the album covers of 2020’s After Hours and 2022’s Dawn FM as well as an image with a white question mark and arcane caption: “3.”

However, it may be the last time The Weeknd’s melancholic mystique takes fans from the darkness into the strobe-streaked light.

“It’s getting to a place and a time where I’m getting ready to close the Weeknd chapter,” he told W Magazine last year. “I’ll still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as The Weeknd. But I still want to kill The Weeknd. And I will. Eventually. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn,” he said at the time. “The album I’m working on now is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd. This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say.”
