An Ohio mother made a TikTok video to discuss how her daughter was reportedly bullied by her classmates for bringing a non-name brand version of a Stanley Cup to school.

Dayna Motycka shed light on the problem of bullying at school based on the possession of a name-brand Stanley tumbler. Motycka’s TikTok video went viral, narrating how classmates teased her 9-year-old daughter for having a knock-off tumbler from Walmart instead of a genuine Stanley cup. Motycka’s daughter received a knock-off tumbler from Walmart as a gift, which she found adorable and cherished. However, upon returning to school after winter break, she faced ridicule from classmates who flaunted genuine Stanley tumblers they had received as Christmas presents. Approximately ten girls in her class possessed the coveted name-brand item, and they made it a point to belittle her for having a knock-off cup, as reported by KTRE
“And they made sure to let her know that this is not a real Stanley, that this is fake, and it’s not as cool,” Motycka said while holding the Walmart-brand tumbler. Seeing her daughter upset and ostracized, Motycka purchased a real Stanley tumbler for $35 despite initially believing her daughter did not need one. Motycka emphasized that as a parent, she prioritized protecting her child from being bullied and helping her fit in. She acknowledged that she could afford to buy the genuine item but did not think it was necessary for a 9-year-old.

“Can we afford to buy her a Stanley? Yes. Did I think that she needed one? No. Apparently, I’ve been proven wrong by the children in our school that are making fun of her for not having a real name-brand Stanley,”
Motycka was criticized for purchasing the tumbler for her daughter and believed she should’ve maintained her stance against bullying after the video went viral on TikTok. One user wrote, “You teach her that she liked the leopard one and not to let people make you feel bad because you like what you like.”
The concerned mother also said that she was concerned about the repercussions after the viral video: “You’re right & it’s happening bc of how much this video is blowing up & my mama’s heart can’t take it! I feel absolutely awful now for posting 😥😥😥.”
