The 2024 Grammy Awards were a night of glitz, revelry and show-stopping performances.

It’s hard to deny that 2023 was the year of Taylor Swift. She was literally named Person of the Year by Time, and legions of fans could not take their eyes off of her record-breaking Eras Tour, nor her worlds-colliding romance with NFL tight end Travis Kelce. And with this year’s Grammy’s, Swift has made history.

The popstar won Album of the Year for Midnights, officially becoming the first artist in history to take home the honour four times. She was previously tied with Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon, who all won the award three times. Beloved Canadian singer Céline Dion presented Swift the record-breaking Grammy.

Earlier in the night, Swift took the stage to accept her 13th ever Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album and took the opportunity to announce her upcoming studio project. The Tortured Poet’s Department will come out on April 19th, the star declared.

Apart from that historic moment, the Grammys really pulled out all the stops when it came to its star-studded lineup of performers Sunday night.

Early on in the ceremony, legendary songwriter Tracy Chapman came out of retirement for a rendition of Fast Car with country star Luke Combs, who re-popularized the 1988 song with his 2023 cover. The tender ballad brought the Grammys audience to its feet.

For the first time ever, iconic Canadian folk singer Joni Mitchell took the Grammy stage to raucous cheers and a standing ovation.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer sat in a gilded gold and velvet chair surrounded by candles and joined by Brandi Carlile and a chamber orchestra to perform a jazzy, meditative version of her classic Both Sides Now.

SZA, the most nominated artist of the night, also graced the stage to perform a mash-up of her hits, including revenge anthem Kill Bill, showing off her signature buttery voice. SZA was up for nine Grammys tonight including Album, Record and Song of the Year, the three top categories. In fact, this is the second time the R&B superstar has been nominated in all three main categories in a year.

Miley Cyrus also stepped up to the mic to belt her now-Grammy-winning hit Flowers after it won for Best Pop Solo Performance.

“I just won my first Grammy!” the former child star interjected in the middle of the song.

Stevie Wonder paid tribute to the late Tony Bennett with a performance of For Once In My Life, accompanied by a video recording of Bennett himself. Bennett died last July at the age of 96.

Billy Joel also took to the stage to perform his first new song in over a decade: Turn the Lights Back On.

This year, the three major award categories — Album, Song and Record of the Year — were all dominated by women, recognizing the musical achievements of Olivia Rodrigo, Lana Del Rey, Victoria Monét, Janelle Monáe, Billie Eilish and the band Boygenius. The only man nominated in these categories was genre-bending multi-instrumentalist Jon Batiste.

Eilish took home Song of the Year for her emotional tune What Was I Made For?, which was featured on the soundtrack of the Barbie movie.

This year’s ceremony was hosted by Trevor Noah, marking his fourth consecutive year on the job.

Many of this year’s Grammys were handed out before the awards ceremony, however, during the Premiere Ceremony. There, Killer Mike earned three Grammys in quick succession for Best Rap Song, Album and Performance. But joy quickly turned to confusion as the acclaimed rapper was filmed being handcuffed and escorted out of the Crypto.com Arena by Los Angeles police.

LAPD spokesperson Officer Mike Lopez said Killer Mike’s detention stemmed from an altercation inside the arena around 4 p.m.
