When it was announced that Jon Favreau was going to be directing a Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu fans wondered if this meant there wouldn’t be a fourth season of The Mandalorian. It was rumored that Season 4 was reworked as a movie, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the 51st Saturn Awards, Dave Filoni addressed whether or not Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian & Grogu movie means there won’t be a fourth season of the series, but didn’t give any direct answer. He said:
“There’s so much spinning in the galaxy right now. You know me better than to commit to any one thing. No mind trick works on me. I’m excited about what we’re doing right now. I think it’s going to be great, obviously, with Jon at the helm. It’s going to be fantastic. He’s so well-studied in Star Wars, so he’s got a great shorthand and I love collaborating with him. Just excited to share the future of what we’re doing.”
Here’s what I would like to see happen. It still seems like there’s a long road to get to Filoni’s Star Wars movie that will bring together all of the stories in The New Republic saga. It’s clear from the title of Favreau’s movie that it will put a strong focus on Din Djarin and Grogu, which means there’s room for the story for The Mandalorian Season 4 to focus on Bo Katan now that she has assumed her role as ruler of Mandalore and leader of the now-unified Mandalorians. But, we’ll just have to wait and see what Lucasfilm has planned.
I just hope that we can have both the movie and the fourth season!
