In a recent judicial ruling, Whalesca Castillo, accused of conducting unauthorized medical procedures, received a prison sentence of four to eight years for her involvement in a fatal incident. The case revolved around a tragic event in 2018 where Lesbia Ayala, a 48-year-old woman from Philadelphia, succumbed to complications following an illegal butt enhancement procedure performed by Castillo.

According to NBC New York, without a medical license, Castillo admitted to manslaughter for the death of Ayala in June 2018, sparking outrage among the victim’s family, who deemed the sentence insufficient. “Four years is not enough. I think that today was a great injustice to my sister to my family,” expressed Vanessa, Ayala’s sister, highlighting the family’s grief and dissatisfaction with the court’s decision.
Ayala sought to improve her appearance and turned to Castillo for butt and thigh augmentation through silicone injections. However, the procedure proved fatal when Ayala died from an embolism, directly linked to the injections administered by Castillo. The operations conducted by Castillo were far from professional; they took place in her home in the Bronx. This was not Castillo’s first legal encounter; she had previously been convicted in 2012, sentenced to a year in federal prison, and fined $100,000 for operating an unauthorized cosmetic clinic.

The sentencing hearing was emotionally charged, with Castillo expressing profound regret and shame for her actions. “Ever since this happened, I have been regretting it so much. So ashamed for myself and for my family because that was not the way they raised me,” Castillo stated, conveying her remorse.
In determining the sentence, the judge weighed various factors, ultimately deciding on a term that includes post-release supervision. The sentence aims to compel Castillo to ponder the grave consequences of her actions.
