Stephen Colbert Reveals His Role in 12th Star Trek Series

The 30th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were filled with memorable moments, from humorous to heartfelt ones. From Meryl Streep crashing into a microphone onstage to Billie Eilish autographing Melissa McCarthy’s face and Lily Gladstone making history with her best actress in a film win, here are some of the most memorable moments from the 2024 SAG Awards on Saturday night.

Meryl Streep Has a Mic Mishap Before Presenting

Before reuniting with her Devil Wears Prada co-stars Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt at the 2024 SAG Awards, Meryl Streep had a slight mishap with the microphone. After being introduced by Idris Elba to present the first award of the night — best male actor in a comedy series, which went to Jeremy Allen White — Streep walked right into the microphone on the stage. She quickly grabbed the microphone stand, looking quite frazzled. “Two things, I forgot my glasses … clearly. And the envelope,” she said with a laugh. Read more. — Carly Thomas

Billie Eilish Autographs Melissa McCarthy’s Face With Sharpie

Melissa McCarthy won’t soon forget sharing a moment on stage at the SAG Awards with Billie Eilish thanks to a black Sharpie. In one of the show’s more hilarious moments, McCarthy and Eilish took to the stage to present the trophy for female actor in a comedy series, and the movie star took the opportunity to have a fangirl moment. McCarthy reminded Eilish that they had meet before, actually several times, though Eilish seemed not to recall. “We’ve actually met before, but it’s OK, it doesn’t matter. I mean, why would you remember that? You shouldn’t remember. We’ve meet twice, actually we’ve met thrice. You’ve met my daughters and one of my dogs,” McCarthy said to the music superstar, who is making the rounds (and picking up tons of trophies) for writing “What Was I Made For” for the Barbie soundtrack. Robert Downey Jr. Jokes He’ll “Never Grow Tired” of His Own Voice While Accepting Award

Robert Downey Jr. won the best supporting actor in a movie award at the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards. Following an awards season full of comedic acceptance speeches by the actor, he took a moment to list off actors (and his wife) that inspired him throughout the years. “This is actually incredibly meaningful to me, thank you very much,” Downey Jr. said. “Why me? Why now? Why do things seem to be going my way? Unlike my fellow nominees, I will never grow tired from the sound of my own voice.” Read more. — Beatrice Verhoeven

Modern Family Stars Among Several Casts Who Reunited During Ceremony

The cast behind Modern Family gathered on Saturday to present the prize for best comedy ensemble to the stars of The Bear at the 2024 SAG Awards. Modern Family alums Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Ed O’Neill, Sofia Vergara, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson reminisced about their ABC show having won this category four previous times. “This really brings back memories,” said Burrell. After Vergara mentioned the popularity of her Netflix series Griselda, Stonestreet quipped, “Jesse, pay up. I told you she’d mention it in the first 10 seconds.” Read more. — Ryan Gajewski

… As Well As Breaking Bad Castmembers

The stars of Breaking Bad gathered Saturday for a profanity-laden reunion to present the trophy for best drama series ensemble to the cast of Succession at the 2024 SAG Awards. Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Anna Gunn, Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Dean Norris and R.J. Mitte were among those gathered to represent Breaking Bad, celebrating the show’s win in the category 10 years ago. After Gunn began spelling out the word “ensemble” by explaining that the “E” stands for “excitement,” Odenkirk quipped, “And the letter N. N stands for ‘no’ — no fucking way I’m going to do this cheesy thing where you say each letter of the word. I’m not doing it.” Read more. — Ryan Gajewski

Lily Gladstone Continues to Make History

Lily Gladstone made history with her win for best female actor in a leading role at the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Saturday. She won for her role as Mollie Burkhart in Killers of the Flower Moon, directed by Martin Scorsese, making her the first Indigenous actor to win in the category. Her character was an Osage woman married to a key accomplice in the systematic assassination of the Osage people in the 1920s. After being presented the honor by Jessica Chastain, Gladstone took to the stage to share how “proud” she is of her fellow actors for getting “here in solidarity with all of our other unions” following the Hollywood strikes last year. Barbra Streisand Brings Audience Members to Tears With Moving Speech

As a teenager, Barbra Streisand dreamt of being an actress while sitting on her bed in Brooklyn with a pint of coffee ice cream and a movie magazine. During those days, after school she would make a break for New York’s Astor Theatre, which showed black-and-white international movies. Another time, she ducked into a showing of Guys and Dolls at the Loew’s Kings Theatre in her neighborhood. “Everything was so beautiful up on that screen,” Streisand said in opening her acceptance speech upon receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award during Saturday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles. “That make-believe world was much more pleasant than anything I was experiencing. I didn’t like reality. I wanted to be in the movies, even though I knew I didn’t look like the other women on the screen. My mother said, ‘you better learn to type,’ but I didn’t listen. Somehow, some way, thank you God, it all came true.” Read more. — Chris Gardner
