Saweetie recently opened up about why she hasn’t released her debut album yet “Everything now just feels like, ‘Make it go viral, go viral, go viral.’ OK, cool, go viral. But if your only intention is numbers, what about the art or the reason why we’re here today?” Saweetie told Allure while speaking to them for their cover story which was published Thursday.
As we all know, Saweetie first gained attention in 2018 with her debut single “Icy Grl,” which went viral on social media and earned her a recorded deal. Since then, Saweetie has continued to make waves in the music industry with her unique blend of trap beats, catchy hooks, and unapologetic lyrics. When asked about why she hasn’t released an album yet the rapper opened up and shared, “I just feel like nobody was caring about my music,” she said. “To me, music is sacred. It’s coming from your spirit. You can’t just go finish an album in a week. That’s why it’s taking me so long. That’s why I haven’t dropped an album yet.”

Saweetie also spoke about some of the difficulties with the music industry and explained how she released her Single Life EP in 2022 and she was promised a big marketing roll out, but unfortunately it didn’t happen that way. “I felt like I was left out to dry by my label and everyone around me,” she. “There was no public support. Honestly, I internalized that situation, but I’m used to doing that.” She continued, “I don’t mean to dampen the mood,” she said. “But this is, realistically, how my career has been. We were constantly criticized for every drop. I was just very insecure. I’m a confident woman, but I was a very insecure artist.”
Saweetie’s debut EP, “High Maintenance,” was released in 2018 and featured tracks like “B.A.N.” and “Up Now.” She followed up with the release of her debut album, “Pretty B*tch Music,” in 2021, which included hit singles like “Tap In” and “Best Friend” featuring Doja Cat. The album received critical acclaim and solidified Saweetie’s status as one of the most promising new artists in the industry.
In addition to her music career, Saweetie has also made a name for herself as a fashion icon and entrepreneur. She has collaborated with brands like PrettyLittleThing and Quay Australia on fashion lines, and has been featured in campaigns for high-end designers like Moschino and Savage X Fenty.
