RHOP star Candiace Dillard shocked the Bravoverse this week when she revealed she’s afraid to have light-skinned children with hubby Chris Basset, saying: “I want my kids to be brown.”

Candiace Dillard of the Real Housewives of Potomac appeared on the Don’t Call Me White Girl podcast where she shared some controversial thoughts.

The Bravo star revealed that as a brown-skinned black woman she is afraid of having light-skinned children.

“I do have a fear of having light-skinned children,” Candiace Dillard said during the interview.

“I want my kids to be brown. But they’re probably not gonna be brown. And I’m like, becoming okay with it. I want my kids to be brown. But if they’re not, it’s fine,” the RHOP star explained.

The 37-year-old budding singer and actress is married to chef Chris Bassett, who is caucasian. The RHOP couple tied the knot in 2018 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C. Their wedding was featured on season 4 of the Real Housewives of Potomac.

“Whatever happens happens,” she noted. “But I didn’t think about [that] when I was falling in love and like ‘Oh this is my husband. Oh wait I’m gonna have these swirly babies.’”

The reality TV couple have been open about their journey to have a family. Initially, Candiace pressed pause on having a baby Bassett to go after her dreams of being a singer but she has since stated that she’s ready to be a mom and has even gone through IVF to freeze her eggs.

No word on when Candiace and Chris plan to start the baby making journey but the reality star admits her husband has given her a timeline.

Until that day comes, the couple enjoy their family time with Chris’ children from a prior relationship.

“I have bonus kids. They’re wonderful,” Candiace said. “His two younger kids are amazing. We talk to them, they live out of state [so] we need to go see them and bring them to us.”

“But they’re at that age where they’re, like, little adults and they have opinions and thoughts, and they have goals, like, talking about going to school,” she added.

Meanwhile, Bravo fans had quite a lot of thoughts on Candiace’s fear of having light-skinned children.

“Please just chose to continue to be childfree,” one Bravo fan shared.

“I’ve never heard someone talk about skin color more than she does,” a second fan wrote.

A third fan commented, “Hello you married a white man ! What is she thinking!” while a fourth added, “Then why did she marry a white man?”

“She really has deep rooted issues with light skin women and she needs to deal with that shit ASAP,” someone else commented.

“She’s obsessed with skin color, she takes it out on Gizelle/Robyn and makes ridiculous statements like this. ? She says the most colorist/racist statements and feels completely justified in doing so!” another fan wrote.

Another fan agreed, commenting, “Ironically I think she suffers from a lot of internalized self-hatred/colorism.”

The Real Housewives of Potomac airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo.
