Scheana Shay spoke with an executive producer, Natalie Neurauter, who revealed which storyline she regrets not exploring.
The Vanderpump Rules exec also addressed how certain scenes are chosen or cut, and when Bravo has “different ideas.”
In an interview for BravoTV.com, Natalie addressed her work on the show.
“I am responsible for making sure all the episodes are bleeped,” said Natalie to Scheana. The executive said she’s the “first” to see all the material and find out what “interesting” things are going on in the cast.
She then revealed what she regrets not exploring more in-depth.
“I know that the entire world was fascinated by the fact that Ariana [Madix] and Kristen Doute became friends,” she said.
Last year, Kristen hinted at how the network didn’t air the full evolution of her friendship with Ariana after her breakup with Kirsten’s ex Tom Sandoval.
What other lessons has Natalie learned?
“I think learning how to tell a story and… truly getting to understand everyone’s points of view,” she said. “And looking for humor in moments where it doesn’t seem there is humor to be had.”
Natalie also explained that, when editing an episode, all the scenes are put in a “timeline” on a “board.” She first looks for something “great for the ending,” and then “work[s] back from there.”
She also goes through “extensive field notes,” first looking for “the bigger things,” and asking if the clips are “as fun or as interesting” as the notes make it seem.
“When Bravo [puts] their eyes on things, they might have different ideas,” she continued. “Maybe they want something bigger, bolder for the beginning of the episode. Sometimes they want to start in like a more melancholy place and get into someone else’s headspace.”
