Director Sam Raimi was recently asked about the rumors that he’s working on a new Spider-Man movie with Tobey Maguire.
Raimi previously said that he is “completely open” to directing Spider-Man 4 with Maguire back in the role of the web-slinger. Later on, Thomas Haden Church said that he heard Raimi was going to do another film and that he wanted in on the action. There’s been a lot of rumors surfacing since.
So, what is Raimi saying about these rumors? During an interview with CBR at WonderCon this past weekend, he said:
“Well, I haven’t heard about that yet. I did read that, but I’m not actually working on it yet. I mean, Marvel and Columbia are so successful with current Spider-Man [movies], and the track there, and I don’t know that they’re going to go back to me, and say, ‘Well, folks, we can also tell that story!’”
He went on to say: “I’m not sure, but I love all the new Spider-Man movies. I loved Spider-Man: No Way Home. It was really, super powerful seeing Tobey [Maguire] again in it.”
That movie certainly opened the door for Maguire’s Spider-Man to return for another film, but Raimi hasn’t talked to him about it. He continued:
“I haven’t talked to Tobey about it, but maybe Marvel has, or Columbia Pictures. But, I just worked with Marvel on a movie called Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So, I’m on great terms with them. I’m sure I would hear about it if it was in the works. I think so. I don’t know.”
When previously asked if he’d be open to making another Spider-Man movie with Maguire, Raimi said:
“I’ve come to realize after making Doctor Strange that anything is possible, really anything in the Marvel universe, any team-ups. I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think all things are possible. I don’t really have a story or a plan. I don’t know if Marvel would be interested in that right now. I don’t know what their thoughts are about that. I haven’t really pursued that. But it sounds beautiful. Even if it wasn’t a Spider-Man movie, I’d love to work with Tobey again, in a different role.”
I would sure love to see Raimi and Maguire team up for Spider-Man 4! I hope that Marvel and Sony are planning something for that because it’s a movie that Marvel and Spider-Man fans would be very excited about seeing! I’m more excited about that than seeing a fourth movie with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
Would you like to see Raimi direct another Spider-Man movie? Do you think that is something that will ever happen?
