As for Lil Tjay, he dropped his 222 album last summer – which was his first project since getting shot in 2022.
The 14-track LP features assists from Summer Walker, Jadakiss and Fivio Foreign, among others.
“I feel like I’m back where I needed to be,” the 22-year-old said during a chat with TMZ following his album release party. “I’m back to the best of my ability and I want to take this as far as possible.”
In June 2022, Lil Tjay was shot seven times at a Chipotle in Edgewater, New Jersey, and was subsequently rushed to hospital for an emergency surgery. The shooting was the result of an armed robbery.
The New York City native was struck once in the neck, once in the arm and five times in the torso. He was very close to death, but immediate treatment ultimately saved his life.
On June 22, 2023, which was the one-year anniversary of the shooting, he released a retrospective track titled “June 22.” The song — which also features on his newest album — is a reflection of Tjay’s experience with being attacked.
On it, he takes an introspective approach toward the moments leading up to the nearly-fatal shooting and he relieves the tragedy in its accompanying music video.
“Opps know It’s crazy, they could vouch, now we out,” he raps on the song. “Meet the bros up in the whip and we in route/ I go to sleep, I wake up hearin’ someone following my car/ Bitch, who following my car?/ No one following my car.”
