On Easter Sunday, near a church in Dallas, a tragic incident occurred. A dispute that originated from a love triangle escalated into violence, resulting in the death of one man and the arrest of another. The Dallas Police Department has charged Joshua Andrews, a 30-year-old man, with murder in the case of 31-year-old Denzel Branch’s death. The confrontation occurred on March 31 at approximately 3:25 p.m. in the 2500 block of 56th Street.

After receiving reports of a shooting, officers arrived at the scene, where they found Branch suffering from a gunshot wound. Unfortunately, despite being rushed to the nearby hospital, Branch did not survive his injuries, resulting in a tragic end to what was supposed to be a peaceful Easter celebration. According to NBCDFW, eyewitness accounts from the police indicate that Andrews and Branch had strong connections to New Generation Church, located on 56th Street, where the altercation occurred. Branch was identified as a youth minister, while Andrews is said to be the son of the church’s lead Pastor and Founder, Eric J. Andrews. However, the church’s leaders have yet to confirm these ties and the community is waiting for their response.
A witness stated that the altercation between Branch and Andrews started in the pastor’s office and continued outside. The situation escalated and turned physical. They reported that Branch punched Andrews, and in retaliation, Andrews drew a black pistol and fired at Branch. The confrontation didn’t end there; as Branch attempted to flee in a car, Andrews is said to have pursued and continued shooting until Branch lay motionless on the road. Andrews later confessed to police that the argument was rooted in a romantic entanglement involving Branch’s ex-wife, with whom Andrews claimed to have been involved since May 2023.

The community is reportedly shaken up by the incident, especially given its occurrence near a place of worship and on a day meant for celebration and reflection. Neighbors recounted hearing multiple gunshots and described the chaos as Branch tried to escape, only to be fatally wounded. After the shooting, Andrews fled the scene but subsequently turned himself in at the Southeast Patrol division. He is now detained at the Dallas County Jail, and investigators have recovered both the weapon used and Andrews’ vehicle.
New Generation Church expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended their condolences to everyone affected. They called for prayers and unity, reminding the community of the strength and refuge found in faith during trying times.
“ur hearts are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that took place down the street from our church after our morning service on yesterday.
