Lori and George Schappell, the world’s oldest conjoined twins, has passed away at the age of 62.

The news of their departure was shared through online obituaries, revealing that they took their last breaths at a hospital in Pennsylvania, according to @tmz_tv. At this time the exact cause of their passing on a recent Sunday remains undisclosed.

Born in 1961, Lori and George shared a remarkable bond, fused partially at the skull and sharing 30% of their brains, specifically the parietal and frontal lobes. Despite medical expectations that they wouldn’t live past the age of 30, the twins defied all odds and lived a full life, more than doubling the predicted lifespan!

More On The Twins:

George, who relied on Lori for mobility as he couldn’t walk, pursued his passion for country music, while Lori excelled in the sport of bowling, earning trophies for her skills. Per the outlet,George courageously embraced his true identity as a transgender man in 2007, choosing the name George over Reba, a decision that made them the first same-sex conjoined twins to identify as different genders.

Before their passing the two lived in a cozy two-bedroom apartment in Pennsylvania, Lori and George strived for independence by alternating nights spent in each room, striving to live as autonomously as possible. Their unique bond and shared experiences captured the hearts of many, leading to appearances on popular television shows like “Jerry Springer,” “The Maury Povich Show,” and “The Howard Stern Radio Show,” as well as the creation of documentaries that documented their extraordinary lives.

As they bid farewell to this world, Lori and George leave behind a loving family, including their father, six siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews, who will cherish their memories and carry on their legacy.
