Jamie Spears has filed a motion for summary judgment to dismiss financial objections raised by his daughter, Britney Spears, regarding her past conservatorship. The filing, dated Tuesday, April 30, aims to prevent these issues from going to trial.

According to PEOPLE, the motion claims that the case should not proceed to trial since no material facts in dispute would necessitate a trial. Jamie Spears argues that he is legally entitled to a judgment on Britney’s objections, which include disputed payments to Tri Star Sports and Entertainment and attorney’s fees to Sidley Austin LLP. The objections were made while Jamie was acting as Britney’s conservator. In addition to addressing Britney’s direct financial objections, Jamie Spears seeks a court decision on her three inquiries for further information related to the accounting of payments to Tri-Star, rental costs for storage space, and differences in investment valuations.
Legal documents reveal that Jamie Spears is urging the court to dismiss all of Britney’s objections and to remove the scheduled trial date of May 13, 2024, from the court calendar. He requests the approval of the twelfth accounting, arguing that Britney’s objections are legally insufficient as he had acted within the limits of his authority as conservator.

The motion follows a recent settlement reached on April 25 between Jamie and Britney Spears over a legal fee dispute. Both parties’ lawyers confirmed the settlement in Los Angeles Superior Court, with details kept confidential. Britney’s attorney, Matthew S. Rosengart, expressed satisfaction with the outcome and emphasized that Britney’s freedom from conservatorship is now fully realized, enabling her to avoid further court involvement or legal entanglements.
“As she desired, her freedom now includes that she will no longer need to attend or be involved with court or entangled with legal proceedings in this matter. Britney Spears won when the court suspended her father, and Britney Spears won when her fundamental rights and civil liberties were restored,”
Jamie Spears’ attorney, Alex Weingarten, also expressed relief over the settlement, stating that Jamie’s actions were always in his daughter’s best interests, aiming to protect and support her. Weingarten lamented the prolongation of legal proceedings by some parties, which he termed as irresponsible. The case continues the legal battle following a 13-year conservatorship battle in 2008, with Jamie Spears being removed from his role in September 2021.
