In a chilling scene straight out of a horror movie, the renowned British DJ and dance music producer Hot Since 82 has cancelled a number of upcoming appearances following a harrowing attempt on his life in Rio de Janeiro.

Taking to social media to open up about the incident, Hot Since 82 surmised that the attack was a setup, leaving him in an uneasy state of questioning as to who could’ve compromised his position. After leaving the club at 5am, he explained, roughly 10 minutes into his ride it was evident his vehicle was being pursued by gang members wielding loaded AK-47s. Given the circumstances, the attackers appeared to have intimate knowledge of the his whereabouts.

As the assailants brandished their weapons, Hot Since 82’s driver immediately took evasive action, skillfully weaving through traffic in reverse, dodging oncoming cars to escape the ambush at over 60 miles per hour. The DJ acknowledged his courageous actions, saying, “if it wasn’t for the heroic maneuvers of our driver, I don’t even know if we’d be alive right now.”

As a father with kids at home and expecting another child in just six weeks, Hot Since 82 emphasized the need to prioritize his safety. He immediately changed hotels and booked the first flight he could out of the country, later sharing his fears about returning to the country. Despite the traumatic encounter, he ultimately expressed sympathy for the people of Brazil, acknowledging the daily fears they face as a result of gang violence.

“Sorry bro. We work hard to get artists here and those things happen,” Brazilian dance music superstar Vintage Culture commented on the post. “Hope you are safe; our country is not at all like that, let’s get you back in a better opportunity.”
