Michael Douglas’ Son Cameron’s Ex Wants Sole Custody

The ex-girlfriend of Cameron Douglas, the son of famed actor Michael Douglas, has filed documents to gain full custody of their children. The couple, who were together as soon as February of this year, appear to have split recently.

On May 6, Cameron’s ex-girlfriend, Viviane Thibes, filed documents with the Superior Court of Los Angeles asking for sole custody of their children, Lua Izzy Douglas, 6, and Ryder Thibes Douglas, 3. She asked for sole legal and physical custody of the two children, and for her ex to pay for her legal fees.

Back in February, People magazine reported that Cameron and Thibes were a happy family, as Cameron shared a photo of “longtime girlfriend” Thibes and their children to his social media to commemorate her birthday.

“Happy Birthday Vivi. This year is yours. The year of the dragon and you are on fire. Enjoy the ride @vivianethibes We Love you,” he wrote. Thibes Instagram page shows her with her children multiple times, but photos with Cameron aren’t to be found.

Cameron is the oldest son of acting legend Michael Douglas and Diandra Luker. Douglas has two other children, Dylan, 23, and Carys, 21, with his wife, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Cameron has been open about his struggles with substance abuse growing up as the son of a famous Hollywood star. His grandfather, Kirk Douglas, was also acting royalty. Cameron, who has appeared in films like “Mr. Nice Guy” and “It Runs In The Family,” has had several run-ins with the law related to his substance abuse issues. In 2010, he was sentenced to five years in prison for drug possession and dealing. He was released in 2016 and has reportedly been sober since.

In 2019, Michael and Cameron spoke to People about Cameron’s sobriety.

“There were moments when hope dwindled… and then it’s just a train out of the station. Life became a series of crises. I thought I was going to lose him,” Michael told the magazine.

“I hated the wreckage I saw in my life because of drugs, but I just couldn’t stop,” Cameron added. “It’s the sneaky power, the stranglehold that addiction has when you’re in the throes of it. When you get that far down the rabbit hole, there are a couple options: there’s prison and then there’s death.”

In 2019, Cameron released a memoir, “Long Way Home,” that detailed his life and struggles. His father told the New York Times that he was supportive of his son’s book.

“It was not a book that was solely based on how his parents let him down. There’s always going to be an element of criticism, which I certainly accept and understand. But no, it wasn’t combative… You learn how to balance between that public exposure and maintaining your own privacy,” he said.

Last month, Cameron was out and about in Los Angeles celebrating the Oscars at the annual Vanity Fair afterparty with his famous dad.
