An exciting day for students at Howard University turned into a disappointing one as their graduation ceremony didn’t go as planned.
According to @fox5dc, the Howard University nursing program’s graduation ceremony was abruptly cut short on Thursday due to the venue reaching its maximum capacity. The incident reportedly resulted in chaos and one person getting injured.
The ceremony, which was meant to honor and celebrate the 2024 graduates of the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, was scheduled to take place at 6:30 p.m. at Cramton Auditorium on the university campus. However, the event attracted a significantly larger number of guests than anticipated, surpassing the building’s capacity.
As the ceremony was underway, a visitor who was unable to enter the facility inadvertently applied pressure to a front door, causing it to break. This incident led to a disturbance among the guests and disrupted the program that was taking place inside. In response, the university officials dispersed the attendees immediately.
Fortunately, EMS personnel were present at the location and provided assistance to an individual who sustained a minor laceration during the chaos. No further information is available regarding this incident, and no other injuries were reported.
Despite the unfortunate turn of events, the university ensured that all students were recognized during the ceremony by their discipline. It was also that individual awards for the students will be presented during the weekend ceremony.
