Here’s some good news to kick off your Saturday: If you already can’t get enough of Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s new song “BONGOS,” then you’re going to be here for this!
The rap stars are now set to perform live at the 2023 VMA Awards. That’s right! MTV shared the big announcement this morning: “Taking these bongos to the 2023 #VMAs – yep, @iamcardib and @theestallion are PERFORMING 🚨,” the network said in a tweet and Instagram post.
Fans are definitely going to be in for a big treat because one thing about these two, they definitely know how to put on a show…especially when they team up together. As many can recall, Cardi, 30, and Megan, 28, previously performed together at the 2021 VMAS and performed their hit song, “WAP.”

To make the night more special, Megan and Cardi are both VMA nominees this year. While Cardi is leading the pack with 12 nominations, Meg is up in categories like best direction, best choreography, and best art direction, all for “Her.” She has previously won two VMAs – best power anthem in 2019 for “Hot Girl Summer” as well as best hip-hop in 2020 for her solo version of the song “Savage.”
Speaking about their new collaboration, Cardi expressed how happy she was that Megan Thee Stallion continues to trust especially during a vulnerable time. As many are aware, Tory Lanez was finally sentenced to 10 years for shooting Megan, finally putting an end to the drama and saga.
During a new interview with DJ Whoo Kid, Cardi said “We put in our sweat and everything. It’s like on some ‘b—h, you jump, I jump… if you wit it, Im wit it. We’re gonna do it.’ We worked so hard on the music video. You’re gonna see… that’s thought put into that.” She added, “It feels good [to get back into the game]… it makes me feel good that she trusts me,” Cardi said of Megan. “I’mma give my all. Not only am I doing this for myself, [but] ‘I want you to trust me.’ We trust each other.”
This year the duo will be joining other great musicians like Lil Wayne, Anitta, Doja Cat, Karol G, and more who are set to take center stage.Other stars like Kelsea Ballerini, Future, Måneskin, Olivia Rodrigo, Stray Kids, and more will get on the mic that night. Diddy and Shakira, who are being honored with the Global Icon Award and Video Vanguard Award, respectively, will also perform.
The 2023 MTV VMAs will air live from the Prudential Center on Tuesday, September 12.
