Following the release of last year’s Toxic Positivity, the Used are back with a new B-sides album, MEDZ, which was written during the same sessions between 2022 and 2023.
The album includes the previously heard singles “Fuck You” and “People Are Vomit,” and now the post-hardcore vets are sharing the title track, which reflects Bert McCracken’s murky headspace at the time of writing through its buoyant rhythm and bleak lyrics (“Everything I touch turns to dust/Everything I feel is way too much/Sometimes I think I’m born for failure”). “[Toxic Positivity] is quite tough for me to listen to because it’s a reflection of times in my life that have been some of my lowest ever,” he says, looking back on the album that embodied a “journey of a depressed, anxiety-ridden person.”
