The Mandalorian recently finished its third season, leaving many fans wondering what happened to a number of fan-favorite characters who didn’t return. Ming-Na Wen speaks on Fennec Shand’s absence, assuring fans it sounds worse than it is.
Following the massive wave of backlash expressed for The Book of Boba Fett, many fans were worried that it would spell the end for Ming-Na Wen’s Fennec Shand and Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett in a galaxy far, far away. However, with the recent news that Morrison will return as Captain Rex is Ahsoka and Wen will return as Fennec Shand in The Bad Batch season 3, fans wonder why the duo was absent in The Mandalorian season 3. While Wen is disappointed in not returning, she assures fans its not the end of the world:
“Sometimes when you take something out of context, it sounds worse than it is,” Wen told The Movie Dweeb. “I think we love our characters so much, that any time we can reprise and be that character – especially someone like me, right, Fennec Shand is my dream role – so of course you’re gonna feel disappointed. Like, ‘Why didn’t they have me put on my outfit and get into the battle with everyone?’ So I think that’s sort of the disappointment, but at the same time we both totally understand and respect Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni’s process and what they need to do in their storytelling. So it’s just – yeah, we’re greedy. I know I am, I would love to be in every single Star Wars project at this point from now on!”
Ming-Na Wen remained tight lipped on whether she would be making her live-action return anytime soon. While it’s disappointing that Fennec Shand wasn’t unable to return for The Mandalorian season 3, fans can rest easy it isn’t the end for her in the vast world of Star Wars.
