Hollywood is all about trickery. Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Zachary Levi urges fans to try to see past the tricks and stop watching “garbage” movies.
It seems as though every day, a new think-piece comes out about how cinema is dead and blockbuster films killed them. While there seems to be no answer as to why, everyone on social media can point to dozens of bad films coming out of Hollywood. Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Zachary Levi has weighed in on the topic, saying that fans need to see through the trickery and stop watching garbage movies:
“I personally feel like the amount of content that comes out of Hollywood that is garbage — they don’t care enough to actually make it great for you guys. They don’t,” Levi spoke at Fan Expo in Chicago. “How many times do you watch a trailer and go, ‘Oh my god, this looks so cool!’ Then you go to the movie and it’s like, ‘This was what I get? They know that once you’ve already bought the ticket and you’re in the seat, they’ve got your money. And the only way for us to change any of it is to not go to the garbage. We have to actively not choose the garbage. It’ll help. It’ll help a lot.”
Many DC fans have found these comments ironic given the reception of Zachary Levi’s latest outing with Shazam! Fury of the Gods. However, it is certainly through that, no matter what audiences think is trash, from Meg 2 to The Little Mermaid, Hollywood keeps making movies that keep making money. The only true way to stop seeing garbage movies is to stop watching them.
David F. Sandberg directed Shazam! Fury of the Gods from a script written by Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan, Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Cotrona, Grace Caroline Currey, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Marta Millans, Cooper Andrews, Djimon Hounsou, Rachel Zegler, Lucy Liu and Helen Mirren.
The official Shazam! Fury of the Gods synopsis reads as follows: “Bestowed with the powers of the gods, Billy Batson and his fellow foster kids are still learning how to juggle teenage life with having adult Super Hero alter-egos. But when the Daughters of Atlas, a vengeful trio of ancient gods, arrive on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago, Billy—aka Shazam—and his family are thrust into a battle for their superpowers, their lives, and the fate of their world.”
